Meet the Team

Encouraging Climate Action through Education

From its inception, WeGen Energy Philippines, guided by its founder Michael Saalfeld, was built with a strong commitment to social good. Established in 2016, the company immediately created a Social Transformation (ST) Department, dedicated to promoting solar energy and solar PV systems as technologies that serve a broader societal purpose.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the ST Team remained proactive despite lockdown restrictions. In 2021, a one-day planning session was held at WeGen Energy PH’s offices to strategize ways to advance the company’s social good agenda. The primary outcome of this session was a general blueprint for establishing a foundation.
By 2023, following recommendations from the Board of Directors and investors, the ST Department refined its focus to Environmental Education and Advocacy. This strategic decision aligned with the urgent reality that the Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. In fact, it currently ranks as the most affected nation globally, facing severe environmental challenges and climate-related impacts.
With this renewed direction, the ST Team actively engaged in collaborations with institutional partners, schools, and communities to promote climate action, sustainability, and environmental stewardship key aspects of the clean energy transition. In the last quarter of 2024, the WeGeneration Initiative was officially formalized in a meeting attended by its founding Board of Directors and leadership team.
